What I,ve got in my Molasses

Postby Yummyrum » Thu Jan 17, 2013 8:38 pm

So I've had several lots of molasses from my local rural store.

The first batch had dozens of Blowy s in it .Ok fair enough ,it takes quite a while to fill a container and it smells so good so in they fly and get stuck.

The second batch had a cigarette butt in it . Ok fair enough ,it takes a while to fill and the bloke had a fag and tossing it in the sticky shit was safer than chucking it on the ground.

What really upset me was when I was asked to fill the container my self cause they were busy ( fair enough ) but then I noticed an oily deposit forming on the top. There was about 10-15 mm of this shit.
I asked "whats that ?" .Told its probably something to do with the processing .Yeah right. Was told to take it home no charge and see the boys on monday.

Did some googling found that vegi oil is sometimes used to make molasses move easier in containers. But this shit did NOT smell like Veg oil.

On Monday I saw the boys.

"Yeah don't worry about it Mate,we just get all the old Hydrolic fluid 44s from the saw mill and the molasses truck fills them up when it comes round"

"she'll be right, won't worry your horse" :)) :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

So I tried decanting it and all sorts of shit.In the end I tipped out :handgestures-thumbdown:

Rural store in our other town seems to have cleaner stuff.but I still haven't got to the bottom of that container .What surprises await :-?

At least your mollases won't rust!

You can send it to me, I'm always scrounging for hydraulic oil for my bobcat.

I really liked the bit about "won't hurt your horse".

Haha, classic!

I went on a tour of the bundy rum distillery back in 1999 for uni and when asked about the molasses pits and why they are left open to the elements (except for a roof) the guide told us about how they got cleaned out recently (first time in a long time) and they found a heap of petrified cane toads at the bottom. They then got a heap of complaints from long time loyal drinkers saying that they'd changed the recipe and weren't happy!

Maybe they need to get Billy Moore to yell QUEENSLANDER! into their barrels. This probably won't mean anything to non-queenslanders.

I didn't realize how many solids were in stock feed molasses! I put 2 teaspoons of it in a demi with some experimental rum to hopefully improve the flavor, stupidly shook it up and the next day it looked like there was a thick layer of dirt in the bottom of the demi.

Did it improve the flavour any? If so,maybe the Bundy distillery could do the same :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:
