150L of failed TPW

Postby Frothwizard » Wed Feb 12, 2014 11:12 pm

So before Christmas we had a bit of a heatwave, 40+ for about 4 days in a row. Half way through I decided to put on a barrel of TPW.

Long story short the heat in the shed and the days after made the entire wash ferment out in 24 - 48 hours.

It smelt a bit strange but on the whole it wasn't terrible and I was hoping it would work.

Tonight I decided to run it after spending a month clearing.

RESULT from 40L boiler charge: 600ml Fores / Heads, 400ml hearts, the rest is tails.

What a complete waste of money and time.

Lesson learnt: Control your ferment temperatures.

i had they same thing with all my brews in the last two month :angry-banghead:
immersion chiller will help with getting temps down at pitching time
can't do to much about outside temps other than fermentation room

Is that the first time you've run the bubbler with the packed section?
If so is it possible that you were running a bit quick and dragged the tails through?

I wish you were right, unfortunately, it was not the first time. It ran like it always did... :(
