MacWhisky Stuck

I put down a MacWhisky last Tues as per recipie, it bubbled away nicely for a few days and then slowed up a bit, now it has been at 1002 on the hydrometer for two days, I was hoping to distill it this Sat should I do anything with it or just leave it ?, this is my first go on this type of wash

1002 will be fine mate, I generally aim for around 1000.... so I reckon you're good to go :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Great, Thanks for that Mac, just one more question, What percentage should I be aiming for when distilling it ? I know some guys prefer different take of rates but being my first go I don't know what to expect

If your runnin a VM reflux like your list says then aim for 95.6% ;-)

As for takeoff rate what is your diameter?

You've just finished a bubbler build havnt you Aust? Im guessing your running it through that. If it were me Id run it at around 2L an hour, at that speed it should be coming off the still at better than 90%.
Maybe an idea to change your Equipment list to save further confusion.
If this is the maiden voyage let us know how she runs.

Hi ausmarty. A toothpick sized stream seems to wrk well with mine, i tried chasing a specific abv first run which just unloaded the top plate. Keep an eye on that top plate if you try going faster. Be patient if you adjust the rc there's a slight delay until things stabilize.
If you do as I did and unload the top plate ( abv plummets ) put her back into full reflux and load it up again. You may already know this, just thought it could be helpful
Edit. Yes should have plenty of flavor. I've run this at 93% and after oaking it was a brilliant drop :handgestures-thumbupleft:

It should have, mine usually runs about 92% give or take a bit.
Ive only done a couple of these, to me straight off the still it doesn't seem to have a huge amount of taste. (Could very well be my rooted taste buds after smoking for years.) After a month or two on oak its got a ton of flavor, What I have left is disappearing at an alarming rate :sad:
