Hi guys I put down my TPW wash on the 22nd Feb 5 weeks later on the 29 march hydro read 30 I opened it up and gave it a stir I mess urged it again today and still 30. :-( (11 weeks now)

The main difference with this one is I put it I'm the outdoor shed (normally I have it in the car garage which keeps a better temp) it was quite hot the first week then weathers been a quite cool since.

Any idea on what I should do with the wash?

I take it that it's reading 1.030 on the hydrometer?

Was the wash made exactly to the TPW recipe? If so give it a gentle stir and heat it up the yeast has probably gone dormant :handgestures-thumbupleft:

bring it inside and give it some warm loving.

also did you follow the recipe on the forum? if you put too much sugar in the yeast will die in the alcoholic environment

:text-+1: .Mine did this the other day too so I stuck my heat pads under them and off they went

Using bakers yeast I have found 30 deg C to be OK.

In the current climate I am finding that inside without heating my TPW gets down to low 20's and even under 20 deg C. When it gets this low it gets pretty sluggish.

Snoozin , at 20 deg and under its more like weeks than days.......try to get the temp up if you can

Others who have more experience than me might like to comment, but so far I am finding if a bakers yeast wash is down to 20 degree C or a bit lower, you can expect it to take 2 - 3 weeks or perhaps a bit longer to fully ferment.

My latest play exercise to keep the ferment temp up is as follows using an old Fowlers Vacola preserving boiler. This boiler must be 50 years old, however, it has a temp controller that allows you to set the temp of the water... this unit has a false bottom that you sit full jars on to heat treat to preserve the contents. I have had this wash up around 35 degree C and it is fermenting OK. The boiler water level is around 3 inches down from the top lip of the boiler, and the perforated false bottom is around 1 and 1/2 inches up from the actual bottom....





The temperature controller allows you to set the temp quite low. I presently have it set so it is trying to keep the wash at around 35 degree. The controller will switch in when the water temp gets down to around 33 degree C and switch out at around 37 degree C, but the wash temp doesn't vary that much. The calibration accuracy of the dial is pretty mundane....
