My rum wash had stalled and started to turn its a gen4 and i put 8l of dundar back on 3l of molasses and 3kg of raw sugar

Yesterday i added some bicarb and 20g of yeast its moving again but still looks a little off

What does it smell like?

It just smells like molasses

I just stuck the hydrometer in and it still reads 1078

Hydrometer won't do jack on a mollases wash. The drop will be the same but the reading will always be very high.

If it's working I'd let it run it's course, nothing bad out of an infected wash for me yet :pray:

I use funky dunder form an aged dunder pit.
I believe its the key to great rum

Sg has gone up to 1090

Bad luck mate, I also had a rum wash turn to vinegar, I still ran it but ive kept it aside, I was only on gen 2, I did a bit of reserach on infections and came to the conclusion that the bacteria is always airborne, when we pitch the yeast if it doesn't start off within an 24 hours ie creating the gas, expelling the oxygen in the fermenter is how the bacteria is killed due to being areobic ( can't survive without oxygen). Well thats what my conclusion was any way. :think:
I used the beer brewers sterilize and started again without any other Infection

Did you sterilise the kit before starting properly..... Proper properly that is.?
Brewing beer is a great insight into proper cleaning.
Apologies if I'm assuming wrongly, in which case I sympathise.

I had steriliesed everything before but this was gen 4 so it was gettin on but it had stalled for 1.5 days and thisnis when the infection started

I just went to the shed and to my surprise :o my rum is fermenting the infection is gone the sg is down to 1070 it went up to 1090 whilst the infection was doin its thing yay :D

There you go then, as ELO so rightly said in the 70's.....
