Carbon filtering strippings BEFORE spirit run

Does anyone carbon filter their low wines before they do the spirit run on a neutral? I thought it might pull out a lot of the things that i'd normally discard and make the hearts cut a bit bigger.

Im worried that the low wines (45%abv) are going to be so dirty that the carbon will be saturated with gunk and it wont adsorb much.

I've set up a 50L keg dripping through a carbon filter, its slow going but i cant still till next weekend anyway. I've done this recipe a whole bunch of times so ill be able to tell if theres a noticeable improvement with carbon filtering before the spirit run

Interesting idea, probably not going to do any harm.
Do you make cuts?

i do now, but didnt on my last low wines :crying-blue:

see the topic here

from what i read, water down as much as possible and the lower the ABV your filtering the better it may filter. i may be wrong though

absolutely! Im looking at ways to make the hearts cut bigger, not a way to do away with cuts all together

from my understanding of how carbon works i think that will more than likely be the outcome

i agree with most opinions here, but remember that carbon will also remove the good flavour stuff. No problem if you want to make a neutral, but if it is rum or whisky you are after it may end up a bit plain... (all depending on how much carbon you use and how much you low wines you gonna pass through it).

edit: sorry, just realized you are running a neutral - should be no problem.
