If you combine a bit of aeration with the oak for a couple of weeks and then add the essences you just might be amazed at the result. :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:
As a couple of my seasoned whiskey drinking friends commented on the teaspoon full ( I'm not wasting my hootch on plebians ) I let them taste " mate, that's very drinkable" while holding out their glass for more :o

Can you tell us more about the "aeration" process? (mine has been just to give it the odd shake but I have no idea if that's a good idea or not).

This may sound like a newbie suggestion.

But when i purchased my Still, it came with a packet of Smoothing Agent.
I have no idea what it does (apart from reading the label) and i suspect its just more rubbish sold by HBS.
But could a product like this have been used by the OP's Whisky making friend?
To achieve the results the OP is talking about.

there are a couple of smoothing agents. Glycerin or glucose syrup . glucose can add a tiny hint of sweetness. 5ml or glycerin in a nice aged oak gives a decent mouth feel. 15ml in a shitty aged rum is also pretty good :handgestures-thumbupleft:
