Question for the AG brains trust?

Postby Hava » Sat Sep 06, 2014 7:44 pm

I know it's been ages since my last post, between work, family & my 6" fsd, not a lot of time left anything else.

Question?

Has anyone worked out a mechanical / automated method of separating grains from a wash when fermenting on grains such as a burbon mash? I Don't think i can keep up doing it by hand (also excluding continuous stills, not going there!)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

An old twin tub washer with the spinner, or washing machine on spin cycle are a couple of ideas I've seen :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Or a Dyson with a stocking over the end :laughing-rolling: dont get busted tho :laughing-rolling:

I built a press out of and old car jack and two plastic buckets. One with lots of holes, the other one being pushed into it by the jack.
Worked well but then I up sized and just sparged instead (fermented off the grain).

I'm not sure if it's possible or not, but i haven't heard of any method of fermenting off grain for a AG corn bourbon mash.

A Screw press is the best looking option i have been able to find online, but i have zero fabrications skills so it's not even worth attempting to make one.

Might just have to go with a fruit press for now unless any other ideas emerge.

Quie funny in a way but the potential for serious injury is definitely likely. Good thread meathead, it has given me some inspiration to fill my yard with dead washing machines :laughing-rolling:

Just my opinion, but compared to the amount of time that I've put into other aspects of the hobby, an hour of straining to get a boiler full of ridiculously awesone all grain wash is irrelevant to me :d

Well what are you bloody doing then? :teasing-neener:

The method in my AG Bourbon thread takes a little under an hour for 40L of sweet nectar into the boiler :handgestures-thumbupleft:

About your x 5. It's way to hot here to be able to do this all year round so it gets crammed in during winter.

I have seen boilers with water or steem jackets ,good for grain and fruit washes with NO filtering required ,you will save 5hrs but it might cost ya a few bucks.cheers hillzabilly
