Just in the process of doing another mash. :happy-partydance:
Been quietly making malt last couple months... ended up making about 11kg of base malt and 750gms of base malt which i then roasted.
So im working on 10.25kgs of base malt and 750gms of the roasted stuff with 3ltr/kg water. Thought that's all my eski tun would prob handle. Turns out its definitely all it can take... was getting worried for a minute there. Just sitting at 65 degs as we speak. Smells awesome!

Looks the goods mate! Once she's ready are you going to double still through pot or single through bubbler or combination of the two? :-B

Yep... this will be my last. Apart from getting too busy with hay and harvest, im thinking it might get a bit on the warm side for making anymore malt ie moulds ect.
So my mash i ended up with 39ltrs and a SG of 1.067. Very happy with that, im putting it down to perhaps milling it a tad finer this time. I did have a bit of fun with the sparge, fitting in the false floor got clogged a few times and my sparge water definately didnt flow through the grain bed as quick this time. All in all a fairly straight forward mash. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Around 1.2- 1.3mm
My homemade mill has the slightest amount of movement in the rollers which isnt ideal, so ive got the gap a bit closer than i really need. I'll prob work on getting a better mill at some stage so i can get more consistent results.

Having one of my whiskey and I have to say it's the best whiskey I have made. Bubbler cleans it up amazing. Has all the flavour without the free grassy flavour of the pit stilled :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Im looking forward to seeing what my roasted malt brings to the table.
The ferments are still ticking along. I wouldn't mind trying choc malt next time.

100% Barrett burston. 22kg 3/1mash thickness sparged to 90 l. Between hearts and tails were about 250ml of spirit with a distinct choc malt taste I included it and sooooo glad I did... :D

Anybody had experience with Gladfields peated malt?

The bag I have has only the very faintest whiff of smoke to it. Just wondering if I got an old bag...

Is it light medium or heavy peat. I didn't notice much smell till it was mashed, it was medium peated.

As far as I can tell there is only one version from Gladfields (mild @ 8ppm). I don't expect it to be as smelly as the Bairds Heavily Peated I used for my last batch, but was expecting to be able to at least smell some smoke.

I guess time will tell, it's fermenting now.

8ppm is very low I doubt after distillation it'd be very noticeable at all.
My understanding is that the gladfields malt is more for the beer market.
