Can you convert unmalted grain using enzymes? Or does it have to be malted regardless of weather or not you use enzymes....

Enzymes will convert it but I believe there is a slight flavour difference, can't tell you what difference though.

I've converted Corn using Pintoshines enzymes, I had better results with Distillers Malt, better flavour too, more like a true bourbon. If you can, try get you Malt as fresh as possible. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Isnt a malted grain a source of enzyme?
And you will get better flavour and more product because the enzyme breaks the starches down into more usable sugars.

Have a look at WLN4050 Brewers Compass
Brewers Compass is manufactured by DSM and is a liquid blend of all the necessary enzymes for starch, beta-glucan, hemicellulose and protein degradation.
The cheap imported beer from Vietnam Hammer ā€˜nā€™ Tong 30 $ a carton i wonder if it is produced by enzyme has bad after taste

Yep idea was el cheapo feedstore grain. If no malt available then use enzyme. Even if there is malted available i may use enzyme to help it along..

I've made beer with 50/50 malted and raw barley. Got good conversion. If that helps at all... give it a fly, I can't see any issue with it
