Hi Guys.

I have access too wheat/barley. Straight off the crop.

Can i use these for sugar washes with out malting?
I'm keen to try some in BWKO, Mac whisky etc. I've had great success with mac whisky/"pilsner malt"

Cheers :)

yes and if you buy some malt(or enzymes) from home brew shop you can also do all grain.I have been told it has a slightly different taste when unmalted. But havent tried it so cant comment..

You could also try malting some of ya own,can be a bit tricky but ifn ya got the supply of raw grain why not,it will save money but cost a bit of time,I am sure one or two members have malted grain.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Pearled barley is used for brewing but is more expensive then buying malted has the farmer looked at processing the grain they seem to have the machinery in India at a local village level.

Thanks :). I malted some wheat years ago. (I'm entering back into the hobby after a substantial break) It was time consuming but made a beautiful vodka. very low yield

Being a self employed father of 2 young children I'm time poor/poor :)) . If I could make something decent with a few buckets of grain I'll grab some next time I get the chance.

Thanks again bluc, I'll try he hbs enzyme. What brew shop do you use? I'm also from the Sunshine Coast

Ibrew if planning ahead. Or the local one if 15mins from closing on a friday :laughing-rolling: Remember you dont need any enzyme /malt for sugarheads, just all grain mashs :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I use unmalted grain in my sugar washes with no problem. It's there for flavor not alcahol content, that's the sugars job. I do think you get better flavors from malted grain in sugar washes though but it is alot more expensive. Make sure you do generations with these washes and your flavor will get better as you go :handgestures-thumbupleft:
