Hi y'all
Sorry to Disrespectful to panda that's not the man I am but him telling me I ain't try and reading got me mad. I've new and have been reading every formum I can get my hands on but some of these recipes are tough for me to understand since I understand some of the processes. Thanks for the links and advice on the bourbon recipes. I'll study more and do it when I understand them better.
Thanks

Now is a good time to get back on topic buddy and ask questions on the parts of the processes that confuse you or are struggling with or need clarification on.

Don't be discouraged brother

All this crap is my fault.

I skimmed over danmiz's post and just replied with something along the lines of "find a pet food shop that sells horse and chook feed and look up UJSSM."

Then I read his post properly and saw it again on HomeDistiller and decided "nah, he hasn't tried hard enough for us to give up the answers just yet".
I was just being a bit of a prick and wanted him to keep digging like most of us had to before we found this site so he would understand it better but my post ended up being quite rude and then other members jumped on his back for taking offence.

To dan, I'm very sorry and I've got you off on the wrong foot with everyone.

To the rest of ya, You should be ashamed of yourselves!!! :text-lol:

Interesting thread this, First up I too am guilty of overuse of the Edit button my only defence is that I was unaware it was a breach of protocol and it was only a expression of self moderation.,

But I did out of interest check out HDs response to the exact same question. Only one guy replied it was that perpetual nice guy Odin.

his advice is below

Maybe try UJSSM? It is in the proven recipe department.

Hi dude I don't know where or even what state ya from but most places have a fodder or rural shop somewhere around . you will get the stuff you need much cheaper there , as for the yeast most supermarkets stock lowens bakers yeast and for the recipes your starting with this is just as good as anything and maybe a lot better than HBS will talk you into not to mention many times cheaper . Say Dude just a suggestion why don't you nip over to the welcome section and introduce yourself and give members a quick run down on who you are and what your aim in this hobby is (what you'd like to make) ect

If I could only find flaked maize instead of cracked corn would that be okay? Would 1 lbs of flaked maize be the same ad cracked corn?

Just go to any feed store and ask for a small amount of cracked maize, I got 5kg for like $11.

a 40 kg bag is only $20 where i go. :))

Flaked maize is better anyway, it's steam rolled and more of the flavour will be accesible. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

That's fair enough, our aim isn't to make the cheapest booze we can,it's about making the best :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft: And it still works out cheaper and better than the shit from the bottle shops :laughing-rolling:

did my first 2 bourbon mashes today.
batch 1 for 5 gallon mash
10lbs flaked maize
1 lb 2 row barley
1 lb rye
5 lbs cane sugar

everything seem to go a lot easy than expected and my sg reading was 6% or 1.o41 before sugar and 11% or 1.081 after.

batch 2 was a random recipe from an old friend that was for a 3 gallon mash and not looking as promising.

2 boxes of corn flakes
2 cup of 2 row barley
2 cup of rye
2.5 cups of sugar

before sugar 4% and after sugar is only sitting at 6%.

does anyone thing the cornflake one will be worth the effort?
