Softening Cracked Corn

What is your preferred method for preparing cracked corn prior to mashing?

So far I have been boiling it bit by bit in a pot on the stove and its very time consuming because I only have a 5L pot and I have to continuously stir it. Im making a whisky and I don't want to add sugar. So I need to break the corn down as much as possible

So is this prior to mashing. Do you let them soak for a couple of days? (Im pretty new to using grain)

rightly or wrongly i only soak my corn and grains till the dunder is cool enough to add back to the new wash. but you may be trying a bit different to me as I use sugar. i know of a couple of guys who sour the corn by letting it soak but i tell ya what, its got a mighty stink to it... :puke-huge:

I dump my corn in a cooler mash tun with hot water or backset & leave it over night
then do a three stage cook the next day, dump it into the mash tun & add the malted
barley when the temp is right.
Also using a bigger pot will make it easier for you.

if you have a mill, breaking down the cracked corn to meal texture will get better conversion.

Kobold; does milling corn down into a meal have any side effects?
