Barley

Postby DrunkASAskunk » Sun Jun 23, 2013 7:18 am

I have been given a bag of barley and im not talking about any shit stuff from the feed store. High grade organic barley grain and that's certified.
My question is what can i do with it. I need to use it quick. It has no weevils in it at the moment. I realy dont want to try and go down the path of malting a hole bag of the stuff.
So any thoughts on how to use 30kg of barley fast would be grate.
Ow and please dont say feed it to the chooks I dont have any.

Thanks Drunk

Howdy,

Grab some bay leaves and put in top of bag it keeps the little bastards out of your grain.

I tried half quality barley and malted to try an old school Irish and it was bloody terrible. Flavour ok but as bitey/headsy type real nasty bite despite very, very generous cuts. It either needs reduced raw barley or a bloody long time to age.
Few ideas, use it as a smaller % of another sugar/grain head say <33% might work, roasting, malting.
Roast it for a darker grain for a porter style wash.

cheers
