Great thread Mac, watching with interest. My methods are a lot more primitive but sometime soon I would like to do a sparged mash to compare the yield and flavour (a bit over hand pressing grain)

Well it all went pretty good for my first attempt, ended up with an SG 1075 & it's now fermenting nicely :happy-partydance:

yeah false bottom has about 200 x 1.5 mm holes on the underside, I think that part should work quite well, also has a valve between it and the pump to slow things down if needed.

Also the mash tunn is built so it can be pulled apart occasionally for cleaning, but most times I reckon I'll just pump citric acid and water through it once I'm done mashing.

Cant wait to try it out, nearly as exciting as my first bubbler build :dance:

Keen to know how well this works so I can build one :-) Do the holes get clogged at all?

What pump are you using? How does it handle the heat?

It's a march pump mate, not cheap but everyone reckons they're the best for this so that's how I went.... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

No I couldnt be stuffed messing around with, and the grain this morning smelled like horse shit so probably wouldnt make anything real nice :laughing-rolling:

It's in the compost, and the mash is fermenting very nicely

should be able to run it before the WABS do so you's can try a bit of it unaged :dance:

They are magnetically coupled to the impeller and handle boiling liquid just fine :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Nice Mac very nice did you clean the system while it was hot . the pump would be very handy in the cleaning process , sweet wort is very sticky .

No it was too late last night by the time I was done, so after I tipped it out and hosed it I've ran a citric acid solution through it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'm really happy with it, so glad I tried this as the brew fermenting smells fantastic and smokey.... cant wait, just like being a newbie again :))

Gold bushy!!!!! If your going to the expense and making grain washes why the fuck would you want to drink UJ :laughing-rolling: well I suppose he could just give it to you when you come over :laughing-rolling:

well it's a happy ferment, and can really smell the smokiness from the peat :dance:

So, that should work out to about a 9-10% wash? does that sound about right?
you should get somewhere in the vacinity of about 10L of drinkable spirit from the still, diluted to bottle strength should yield a little over 20L.
That works out to only $7.50 per Litre, which yes, its expensive by our standards but over all still pretty damn good ;-)
