Ran the rig a couple of days ago. Heres a pictorial result.
Heating up with the grain milled and waiting
IMG_0140.jpg

For my first mash I have gone with 5 kg of malted wheat, 5 kg of pale malt, 10 kg of wheat, 10 litres of the day befores backset and 52 litres of water. PH 4.8
While stirring the mash I use this marvel of engineering, called a 3 way valve, to direct the flow through the drain tube. Then once the flow clears up change it back to the spray bar.

The final product was 42 litres of sweet smelling nectar with an OG of 1055. This was crash cooled in the kids pool then after a bit of aeration I added some whisky yeast and a little enzyme.

Happy so far :-D

Future runs will see me sparging this grain bed then using that to start another mash. I got buckets and freezers so why waste it.

Thanks to Mac for the idea and the valve and the pipe. And a special thanks to you all from Mrs Bushy " for making you finish the thing". She reckons I'd still be fuckin the dog if not for the challenge. Go figure.

That's brilliant Bushy, I'm very impressed with your setup

You'll be making some fine all grain spirits now!

Think I'm going to have to build one in the future now

Hey guys, has anyone used these for corn mashes. It's the best design I've seen, but curious as to how it handles corn mashing at the gelatinous stage? Or is it a case of, don't even go there with it and stick to steel boiler?
