Kimbo's Mash Tun

Postby Kimbo » Sat May 17, 2014 12:06 pm

Hi everyone,
sorry its taken me soooooo long to get the pics up, but here it is.
As you can see, I have collected a lot of bits ant pieces for nicks. Which for me, is half the enjoyment of building stuff.... improvising the design to utilize what you have available ;-)

This is just a 50mm hole and I welded in the ferrule which came with my FSD Element kit

this was a freebie....... thanks Linno :handgestures-thumbupleft:

After a lot of Rooting around with the PID"s, its finally working
The GPO on the Left is controlled power from the PID ( the little pink light is so I can see from a distance that the Element is getting power)
The GPO on the Right is constant power... for the Pumps and Radio :handgestures-thumbupleft:

As you can see, there are 2 tanks. The insulated one is the HERMS and the uninsulated one is the Wort Chiller. this is just using mu submersible pump and recirculating my Pool water ;-)

The hoses are disconnected at the moment coz I sprung a leak and I needed to dry it out
And the whole thing sits on a trolley :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Nice work kimbo, I also made my herms from a fire extinguisher, an old copper one it works great. I initially had my temp probe in the top of the herms but for me it works much better measuring the wort outlet temp.
I like the mash temp chart on your wall, I know I've seen it in another post here somewhere but can't find it, can anyone tell me where it's at ? Thanks.

Why do you post this the day after I find a fire extinguisher like that? Looks like I'm going all grain in the future.

They're stainless, Yummy, and apparently they hold 9.1L...

Yes, they are Staino mate.... But only the water or powder type (these are 9Kg water)...so +/- 9L
The bloke who supplies and services our Exy's at work was more than happy to get rid of them. I also scored a full Co2 exy for a later project

If it's powder it won't be staino mate. You want the Water or Foam ones ;-)

yeah thanks guys powder ones are carbon steel i looked up the site it was manufactured the stuff is inert so i assume it wouldnt rust it out like water so its cheaper for them to make it out of carbon steel

Scored these today, freebies !!! Will have to build a mash tun one day
Can I be sure their stainless? Not magnetic which is a good sign but is there another way to tell other than grinding them back and leaving out in the weather?

The older ones are good quality stainless. If they have been serviced properly they should be very clean inside and not pitted.
