All Grain Newbie silly question

Can I directly heat my mash ?
I was wondering if I could use an element under my false bottom to heat the mash without pumping it through a hot liquor tank
I plan on using a 50L keg with a removable false bottom and also using a BIAB Bag to hold the grain. I don't see people doing
it this way which makes me think there is something I am missing. The false bottom was really just to keep the BIAB up off the element.

Im not trying to cheap out I just need to keep my equipment to a minimum due to a lack of storage space.

You "can" directly heat your mash, but I'd have a recirculating circuit so you don't get hotspots in your mash
Take a look at this thread over on AHB about recirculating HLTs, there's some good designs in there
