Suitable as a Tun?

Postby Undertaker » Wed Jan 20, 2016 5:14 pm

My local engineering shop has somebody's idea of something  out the back in the scrap area because the customer never came back for it. The shop want $100 for it to cover their costs. Its 4 x 50 lt kegs fully welded up. All the ends have been removed in between, (basically its a 2 mt long tube, capped at each end), with 2 x threaded outlets at one end 90 deg. apart and 1 threaded outlet at the other end.

Could this be the start of a great mashing vessel?
Or is it useable for something else, I'm open to suggestions? :? Or is it a waste of time?

Cheers Phil

Be great for something :?
I reckon a mash tun is more suited to the short fat rather than the tall thin.
Even cut in half it would be to narrow for comfort.
If I had it I'd use half for a HLT and the other....
Must go to more scrappys o:-)

I'd put a conical end :handgestures-thumbupleft: and couple ball valves on it and turn it into stainless ferementer 200l and less floor space than a drum

It stands for "hot liquor tank". :-B
Bit of a confusing term in our game, but it's what the vessel used to heat the strike and sparge water is called. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Fill port and cover mayb.Access at that hight might b PITA depending on ur shed set up.Make 2 really good low wine storage tanks though would only cost ya couple ball valves in drains and tops with fill ports.Just ideas lrg stainless storage that cheap I'd find use for it :handgestures-thumbupleft:
