How long can wash stay on the grain

Postby ekul » Mon Jun 13, 2016 10:24 am

I've had an all corn wash sitting there for around 5 months. My low lines barrel is full and i havent had time to run that so i could strip this wash.

The recipe was 45kg corn in 180L wash fermented with safspirit american whiskey yeast on the grain. I converted with pintoshine enzymes

Im going overseas till late july so probably wont get around to stripping this barrel till early august. Its not infected and it smells fine, im just worried that I may be slowly increasing methanol content somehow.

Should i just take a massive fores cut?

I've had a corn mash sit for about 2-3 months before running it. Wasn't under any temp. Control so anything could have been happening during those months. I ended up with very sour product in the end. It was probably a 3rd Gen UJSM, so it was meant to be sour, but this was not worth drinking.

So, from my personal experience, I wouldn't advice leaving your wash on the grain for anything more than a week after its finished.
