Looking good rumdidlyrum, silage smell is pretty standard unless you are using smoked/specialty malts, makes a rum ferment look slow doesn't it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So the wash stopped bubbling on about day three, the way it started I expected it to had finished so on saturday i planned to run it.
I checked the fg which was 1060 from a start of 1090.
This is the second time this American saf whisky yeast I have used slowed or stalled
I did hydrate the yeast prior, but i'm wondering if my rashining of the yeast was not too much at 30grams per 20ish litres
I wasn't keen to risk an infection trying to restart so I just distilled it and only pulled about 2ltrs from a wash of about 35-40 litres.

So i'm not too sure how to run the next mash wash

I have been using Malt whisky yeast and American whiskey yeast for a while now, malt whisky yeast is a bit more forgiving than american whiskey yeast(Ive pushed it to about 1.100), I found that keeping your SG around the 1.060 mark works heaps better for american whiskey yeast, for AG, rum and sugarheads :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Anyone tried the EDV493 (I think it is?)? Supposed to be the Bees-knees for molasses rum fermenters...

I tried it, must have got a dodgy lot. End up making a expensive yeast bomb :angry-banghead:

Following with keen eye. Glad you're having some success.
I'll be having a go soon ish. I've got a mill in the post and some grain as part of a bulk order so now just need to make my mash tun and finish the bubbler.

So it seems this yeast is a little temperamental... Where did you get it from, if I may ask?

I Brew in QLD, never had any problems with other yeast from them. Mods please delete if this is inapropriate :handgestures-thumbupleft:
