T500 2000watt boiler pure distilling pot still

Hi all, I have been using my t500 for a few years now and enjoying the results I want to make gins, vodka, bourbon, rum, liqueurs and lemonchello :happy-partydance:. I double filter using still spirits carbon filters I had been wanting to pot still for a while (and was sold a pure distilling pot still which I haven't used it yet) to make a real rum or bourbon.

I would like advice on the following

I am laying down a macrum soon!

A: is this pot still going to do a reasonable job
B: do I use this for stripping runs and plan on another unit to do the stripping runs(not a lot of cash ATM.) would have to build.
Thanks in advance

Pot stilling you will need some power control for the boiler. It will be fine for a stripping run though when you do your spirit run of low wines it needs to be done slow (power control for that type of electric boiler)
Rum is a very strong flavor and can be refluxed, still carries good flavor over but for whiskeys etc no go.
I've run a few rums through the T500 and it works. I'd recommend you clean the saddles etc after though. Manky rum is the last thing you want in a neutral :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Edit- spelling

I moved from still spirits gear to TPW washes over a year ago and won't look back. Ditch the plastic filter... You don't want plastic and high Abv alcohol coming in contact.

G'day Mate

I don't even like me soft drinks in plastic.

Might want to have a look at this one pretty much goes for the filter as well. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

For your power control i had the sparkys at work make up a box with a $5 ebay voltage controler rated to 2000w we ran a 2000w heater of it and dialed it back to 1380w and put a mark on the lid

Hi muppet when you say that, you need a controller, is it to lower the pot boiling temp or just slowing the whole distilling process down to get a better product.? Thank you for any input. :greetings-waveyellow:

Boardy I am also keen to know if your sort of column is desighned  for a specific use, and what a column say 600mm would do differntly...

Pot stilling is a two stage process. First up a stripping run. Run hard and fast to collect 'low wines' then when you have enough low wines (watered down so it is under 40% ABV) a slow spirit run. This needs to be slowed down by the heat input.

All this is well documented here, the newbies section is a must for new members. A lot of effort has been taken by the admin and moderators to compile it. The search function and bookmark function is a big help too. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks for the responses I now have a controller on order in the meantime I can do my macrum 5 genera
Generation wash stripping runs and by the time these are done I will have the controller ready.

Please can I also have clarification on the difference between the pure distilling pot still which is quite compact And say a 5 star pot still head say 500 mm long?
Thanks

One will be happy on boilers from 5-25lts and the other from 5-100lts ,capacity, future add on options ,versatile .cheers hillzabilly

Larger diameter also equates to quicker strip runs if you have the power and cooling capacity :handgestures-thumbupleft:
