SG questions

Postby theozzman » Fri Mar 27, 2015 11:01 pm

Just a quick question re SGs guys.

I checked SGs on my 3 UJSSM mashes on the first day or two, but as I was busy missed the rest.

Do you al check it each day? Or is it okay to check the initial SG, then check when it looks near ready and compare to the first SG to see when its done?

Cheers

I only check before pitching yeast, if at all

The only time I disturb a wash, is if there is a problem

best not to play with it in the first few day as you raise the risk of infection.

check when it looks finished :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks mate. I wondered, as some blokes claim you must check each day.

I guess if I have at least the first reading i can go from that. However, I can usually tell by sight and taste when my wash is good to go.

Thankyou

Yep at the start to get a reference for what your final ABV will be and at the end to make sure it's finished and to calculate the ABV.

If it's a wash you have done the same way a lot of times you can probably not bother. If the ferment looked the same as last time the figures will be the same. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
