Transferring wash with vinyl hose

Postby stilllearning » Mon Sep 26, 2016 6:03 pm

Quick question, had a bit of a search but nada -
Is using vinyl hose safe for transferring wash or low wines to a boiler? You know, the clear stuff you get from bunnings in the irrigation/hose section

Perfectly fine in my view, the wash is only a low alc % and its only passing through :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I use a garden hose :D

Yep clear stuff is ok just bear in mind some hoses will give it a plastic taste.
I bought 2 "drinking water" hoses for transfering water and they both left a very strong plastic taste. Like drinking water from a garden hose on a hot day. I still have about a litre of whiskey that tastes like plastic :puke-huge:

Great, thanks. Got 2 x 50L TPWs to strip this weekend. Gonna syphon them to the boiler.

What about low wines? My Demi is 30L (or thereabouts, I think). I suppose the ABV could get quite high? I'll probably end up tipping it straight in as its not too hard to wrangle by hand, but good to know if the vinyl is ok either way.

Personally wouldnt on low wines or higher proof. I would transfer with a stainless pot..
