Wash resulting and data logging?

Postby Matt_Pl » Mon Jan 22, 2018 1:50 pm

Good Afternoon All,

I am just looking at beginning to catalogue my wash runs to create a better long term product.

Notable inclusions are:

Date/Time
Amount of ingredients: Sugar/Tomato paste/Yeast/etc etc/Molasses (wash dependant of course)
S.G.
Temperature When pitching the yeast and ambient temperature
Days to ferment/stall and once cleared S.G.

Is there anything else worth noting ?

I would suggest to make some longer term meaning from the results would be to fix as many parameters as possibly and try analyze one change at a time
Most influential items would be:
Temperature
Fermentables (as ratio to water, may be easier to measure as S.G., but difficult to apply to molasses then)
Yeast, type and (as ratio to total wash volume)
Fermentation duration
PH

Less significant factors would be:
Qty of additional nutrients
Extra steps would be to look at if any finings or clarification methods are used?

Also may be worth looking at single gen different from multiple gens, % backset will become important.

I remember reading but buggered if I can find it again, unless I was just dreaming at the time, someone has a data recording spreadsheet they developed and has made it available to the forum. I’ll keep looking but Simone else’s may know where to find it.

You may be interested in a tilt hydrometer or the open source version ispindle. Is a digital hydrometer that will track your fermentations and auto log them into pretty graphs for you :handgestures-thumbupleft: ispindle is def on my list of things to do this year..
