The seal question is one I would be interested in finding an answer about. If they don't seal fully, evaporation may be an issue.

It's fine I reckon, I got two of these large jars/dispensers, don't have a problem with evaporation. if u planning on putting it away for years then yes, but I wouldn't go much further than glad wrap or something like that. If u r really tight arsed on the angels cut then just wrap the lid on and dispense from the tap! :)

Well I will be buggered, I thought lead crystal were the real expensive glasses.

I thought it must have been in a glass in a way to make it safe!

Cheers for the references Boomgate

Some of the most expensive decanters in the world are made with lead crystal... You can use them, just dont store stuff in them for a long period of time...

and dont store breast milk in them either apparently:

So where do everybody source there glass jars?

After doing my first real spirit run last week, i've used up most of my 3L cookie jars :)) I also used up my 5L demijons, it was hard using those because the oak dominos im using i haven't got anymore small pieces to fit into there! LOLLL

I've found these http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au/Kitchenware/Food-Storage-Jar-Container/Bormioli-Rocco-Fido-Jar-Herm-5L

I'm thinking about ordering a few, the cookie jars im using are from the crazy clarks type store and i have removed the seal from them. It makes it hard to give the jar a shake every couple of days.

Cheers lads

That was from hours of searching and emailing. I got almost all the prices plasden has on glass bottles and jars over 2lts and for volume to price ratio cant beat the flagon. There is also this place might be closer for some

http://www.thebrewshop.com.au/2-litre-glass-flaggon.html

Wait just looked at there addresses they are within like 300m of eachother
