it sounds like you are talking about Glucose...

No, glucose adds a LOT of sweetness, it's a sugar. Glycerine is just for adding the thick, syrupy texture without flavour.

They use it in commercial cake icings too.

Ive made some coffee/choc rum, but it seems a bit "thin". Thinking about adding some glycerine for "mouth feel" Coles has it in the beauty section for skin softener. Just a couple 100 mIs bottle. That the right stuff? It doesnt say food grade or anything, but it doesnt say poison either.

Cheers Phil

You can get it cheaper in bigger containers from woolies in the medical section, or from a chemist
I'm currently trying to buy upto a litre at a time for freezing yeast

Dry yeast yes, liquid yeast no
If it's liquid, ice crystals will pierce and kill the cells as it freezes

Would you have a link, or just your local produce store? We don't seem to have one like that ...

http://www.pocd.com.au is a health care product company

look for "glycerol ar " in the 5 litre bottle, food grade, I think it was about $15-00 + $20-00 delivery, much better than $7 or $8 for 100mil in the supermarkets :))

Google Value Plus Glycerine Glycerine for all animals
the MSDS is on the Internet and would seem to suggest that is ok to use .

I work in the equine industry, I can confirm from first hand experience what some people (even companies) think is good for livestock is not good for humans
I'd want to look further into it before I used stuff sourced from rural supply places

Where is the best place to get glycerine ? I live in the Pilbara and most items are only available via online shopping .... I’ve wasted a goodly amount of coin buying the wrong stuff over the years so if I was ordering glycerin online where would I get it ?

In the "chemist" isle of the local supermarket, right next to the peroxide usually.
