Thanks Ben, sometimes one you into a routine that puts blinkers on your thinking - I am so used to, once fermentation is complete, switching the heat off, allowing the wash to "settle", degassing, racking and then allowing the wash time to clear etc. etc. I forget that technically you can go straight from the fermenter into the boiler (possibly AFTER degassing).
There is so much sense in going straight from the fermenter to the boiler IF it is NOT going to cause a problem with puking or whatever.

Cheers mate.

(any thoughts about that are welcome and appreciated).

Some parts in the shed for something more "traditional", 2" MacBoka atop a 50L SS keg fitted with 2 x 2400W weldless elements (with guards).

What does "degassing" accomplish?

It is supposed to allow the CO2 to evole out of solution because having CO2 in your copper still leads to acidic vapours which will damage your still over time.
Stainless steel does not have this issue.

Hmm, seeming your wash that your boiling is acidic anyway I would have thought carbonic acid would be of little concern.

Not much of a concern but still one more thing to think about.
And really if you pour the wash into a boiler and it splashes about a bit that will do the de-gassing for you.
Like how topping up a fermenter with water to final volume, after you've added everything but the yeast, aerates it for you.

Gently siphoning it between fermenter and boiler might allow more CO2 through tho.
