Making schnapps with 93% neutral

Postby Yourmomm » Mon Aug 14, 2017 7:23 pm

Found this site whilst looking for recipe for ginger schnapps:

http://www.danish-schnapps-recipes.com

All the recipes call for 40% vodka. Am I right I thinking that 93% neutral would be more effective for infusions, therefore steeping time would be significantly reduced? Many thanks for advice...

Haven't made schnapps myself as yet, but higher ABV is a stronger solvent, and can sometimes leach undesirable flavours (tannins, bitterness, etc) at a faster rate than the flavours you're after.

There'll probably be an optimal ABV for each recipe dependent on the ingredients used.
