Stainless to copper what flux?

Postby davesims » Thu Sep 07, 2017 7:49 am

Hi all

I am looking at making a pot column and will be using stainless ferrule, i was wondering what is the best locally available flux to use on this job?

I have used ezi weld 801 for all my SS to copper, works fine :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If you're silver soldering (commonly known around here as hard solder) then no flux required.

equipment: 4", 4 plate "Frankenfurter" copper bubbler and blockhead on a 50L 3000W electric boiler, 10000W controller - don't even know why I need that much, all grain HERMS system through 18G HLT keg and 50L mash tun.

I tried the paste (only because I had it on my shelf) when I started my build but found that it was difficult to work with - spatter, not sticking and general shit finish. Didn't seem to get the same from the liquid

:text-+1: the paste burns before the stainless is hot enough. 801 is the go :handgestures-thumbupleft: it’s not too bad to work with, I just dip my bits :laughing-rolling:

I've had nothing but headaches with stainless to copper and the dreaded "tings" as the joint breaks. I even used 56% silver rods and couldn't get it right.
