first run questions

Postby rat man407 » Thu Sep 07, 2017 3:11 pm

Hi Guys

I did my first run today with a TPW on the T500 and I just had some questions
so I ditched the first 250ml just to be on the safe side and after that it was taken in 500-700ml at a time
ended taking 3L roughly
I'm guessing I turned it off super early ?
I prefer to be on the safe side plus I'm on tank water so have to watch how much I use

has anybody set up a recirculation system with a T500 ?
think I will need to not only for water issues but my house pump keeps cutting in and out and was causing the wash to drop 10 degrees when It cut in
would the constant temp flux cause any problems with regards to drinkable of the spirts ?

Thanks for your help guy sorry for all the questions lol

Yes it will.
Reflux is going to be up and down, so will the quality.
You need a constant flow, get a 200lt barell and a small pump say 350watt from Bunnings problem solved :handgestures-thumbupleft:

rat, what you collected is about right. So you didnt turn it off too early. As has been mentioned, connect a pump to your tank and recycle as you are Wasting 3 to 400 lit of cooling water each time you run.

Next time practice with cuts mate. Chuck the first 200ml, then collect in 200-300ml (or whatever you like it's not exact science) so you can practice smelling/tasting heads, hearts and tails. Personally, I recycle all my heads and tails for future feints runs and only keep the hearts. Cheers.

the plan is to cut next run I just need to get around to buying a few small bottles or jars

I thought the 200L drum and pump as the go but how do I go connecting the water fitting part from the t500 onto a pump ?

Thanks for the answers

No need to buy bottles or jars mate. Use washed out stubbies (if you like a beer or three) and save up your used jars from the kitchen - like the "chicken tonight" stir throughs etc. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Where are you located mate? If you're in Melb, I have dozens of Schweppes mixer bottles you can have.

Once per week in this house, helps my collection of cuts jars grow. The raguletto brand has the label come off mostly cleanly and once through the dishwasher and it's all good. Just don't use the caps un-lined cause you'll never get the smell of the sauce out of them and your spirit will smell of sauce.

Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

Hey Rat, I got a T500 (moan), but I am just learnin' too. I have no water on my garage, so I got a blue barrel and a water pump ( for a fountain) a cheap one off Ebay and it works a treat - about $25.
I just use a bit of water hose from the pump to the T500 tape that controls the flow and just recycle the water. About 30 mills of bleach in the water after a month just to kill any growth if you need to.
Down here in Tas the winter slows down the TPW soooo much, I am still waiting for it to finish fermenting after over 2 1/2 weeks. :angry-banghead:

No worries. It doesn't take long to accumulate enough collection jars. Get your family and friends to save them for you too.

Hope those 2 shots were diluted to a safe drinking strength. The T500 is capable of producing spirits in excess of 90% abv. Just be careful you don't give yourself alcohol poisoning. 2 shots of 90% is more than 4 drinks in one glass.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.
