dispose of used grain bed?

Wondering if anyone has any creative ideas of how to get rid of spent grain beds. I have been dumping them on the compost but it tends to stink and I don't want to annoy the neighbours. Living in town no pets to feed it to. I have been watering the heap which keeps smell to a min but looking for something better..dunder backset is easy and tends not to stink and can just go down the drain..

I've been donating it as chook and pig tucker or just sprinkling it over my garden bed. Apparently it makes good bread, haven't tried it personally.

Funny you mention that. When I was in Tassie and talking to Belgrove Distillery he fed it all to his sheep. Then he collected some shit back up and added it to his peat when he dried the next batch. Lol.. creative huh? Start eating it mate ... :laughing-rolling:

Belgrove distillery also uses a plastic tub as a collection vessel off the still!

Wouldn't you use it more for bread if you ferment off the grain. Grain bread made from grain that had been sitting in a ferment for weeks may be a bit funky..I don't think spent grain as such from off the grain all grain mash would smell as funky as the trub/yeast/grain bed from a uj style whiskey.. :-B

Get a cheap 100 liter container with a lid. Cut the bottom off and bury as much as you can in a quiet corner of the garden leaving the lid exposed. Backfill and just pour your spent grain in there when ever you have it. It'll smell when the lids off but it'll be fine any other time. Should rot away nicely too.
Used to do it for dog crap.

I should add, my dog will eat them straight out if the bucket. Have to keep telling the bitch to get away from em!

we compost a lot of the grain...you have to often add a bit of lime to keep P.H. in line....used gin botanicals get used to make soaps (they add smell and texture)...stuff chickens for the restaurant... can be ground and added to sausages...make a great base for bitters... they have so many uses.

lol I get a lot of galahs and cockatoos at my place they seem to like it but they just don't eat it quick enough.

I just throw it on the garden and the birds have a feast with it. But then I don't do a lot of all grain washes.

Have seen on television wet grain taken out of mash tun and put in open IBC and feed to sheep but you may be right it could have been mixed with grain or molasses.

I would imagine it's just spread around his sheep paddocks. He has this whole" take it from the farm, return it to the farm" philosophy.
