If corn is malted do you still have to do a cereal mash?

How do you malt corn Bluc? have you been sniffing something?

Love to be able to buy corn malt like beer malt. Save a lot of naffing around with making bourbon.

If you malt it properly it has enough energy to convert itself but from memory not much else. Might need to check that one.

Yes do have to mash i sprouted the corn in a bag dipping into water and hang to dry a couple of times a day the corn can be soaked to start out.
Only did a small quantity so you need to do a large amount to get a return for effort.

To create enzymes for all grain is one reason. I thought once malted it may not need to be cooked...

Asked the same thing over on hd and was told heating to gelatinize will kill the enzyme so just fine grind and mash in. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If you can dry out after it sprouts can then kiln it seems that when grain is dry the enzymes are less vulnerable to heat .

Lowie is a beer brewing master and those type of fellas generally take to all grain like a duck to water, he would definitely know if it needs to be cooked. Some folk are just modest here on the forums ;-)

I believe you can buy malted corn as cane toad got some a few years back to do a recipe of mountain moonshiners :-B

Yer you can and it’s bloody expensive, was dearer than Rye malt for some reason.

Who sells it? Beer grain suppliers or stock feed?

Well, ... on “Moonshiners” the TV series, they just grabbed a bag ‘o corn and chucked it into the fresh mountain river; Yaknow, in a white like spot... :D

Too bad I can’t convey that southern drawl...

Lol if you know what your doing(many old timers do) then yes you can litterally can throw a sack full of corn in the river and have it sprout.. I am more interested in a straight comparison. Raw corn cooked to gloop then mashed versus malted corn ground then mashed without cooking.(not sure whats worse hours cooking corn stirring etc, or malting it) :D from what I read biggest diff between malting corn and barley the rootlet has to be lot longer on corn..half inch vs length of grain wirh barley..

Grain supplies and one HBS I know of. HBS was very expensive in 6 kg bags I think :handgestures-thumbupleft:
