Hey dudes, my goats love to mack on the sediment from the fermenter. Only when I do cereal washes (wbab,nutrigrain), I just tip it over the fence and they come running. More recently one of the Muscovy ducks has been getting in on it. They only get it about once a fortnight.
They have not shown any noticeable effects.
What do you guys reckon? Should I knock it off?
Are my animals gonna become piss heads?

I've got no idea but have thought the same myself. I guess there would be alcahol in it so probably not the best thing for animals but then again they will probably only get drunk :laughing-rolling:

Ive been carting semi loads of spent grain from breweries to feed dairy cattle for years . They love it and so do the farmers .

When I enter a paddock with a load the cattle in the know walk alongside the truck licking the juice that leaks out of the tailgate seams .

Ive seen numerous anecdotes for used corn given to chickens and pigs - and yes drunk pigs

There is no alcohol in the spent grain as it's pre ferment.

Unless your animals are acting crazy I wouldn't be too concerned, goats will eat anything anyway :handgestures-thumbupleft:

In the US, micro-Distiller’s are donating all of their spent ingredients to local farmers, making it a primary part of their “Going Green & Recycling” marketing schpiel. I’m sure they wouldn’t be doing that if it was a ‘risky’ move.

Although, that’s not a good foundation ... :laughing-rolling:

There is good nutritional value with spent wash grains. The removal of the starch/sugars increases the fibre ratio of the feed and also consentrating trace elements. It’s not particularly good for an animal to have the spent wash grain as sole diet, but is brilliant as a supplementary feed. Works on the same principle of feeding straw along with grains in a feedlot. It adds bulk (fibre) to the diet to help with gut health. It’s like chocolate for us (animals love chocolate as well), great in moderation but can’t live off it. Mind, goats will eat the spent grains, the dirt it was tipped out onto, the rocks in the dirt and anything else within a square meter. They will love you for it.

My dog (she is only little mini schnauzer) got drunk as fuck off spent nutrigrain I dropped on the floor one time. She came inside and wasn't listening to commands tried to jump onto the couch and ended up jumping into it. I was rolling around on the floor pissing myself laughing at her, until the wife got all worried about her took her to the emergency vet. But it seemed to wear off after a few hours needless to say I keep the dog outta the mancave when transferring slops
