Could be the water's capacity to suspend oils is lower in the cold, causing louche.

Ice from tap water same as mixing, mixing water chilled. proofing water is bottled spring water from coles. The iced whiskey clears to a degree after 45mins.

I think the temp caused the change as just water is fine, try putting the water only one in the fridge and see what it looks like once chilled, with my lemon vodka ifn I dilute below 42-43%ABV it can go cloudy or when I put it in the freezer for frosty shots, and I put it down to the slight amount of citrus oil,and I have done some corn wash's that seemed ta have that oily greesy feeling,so when ya chill it with ice the oil comes out of solution as it forms a solid state at that temp, and diluteting means less alcohol ta keep it in suspension too.and all brown spirits I do go thru the coffee paper just to be sure,as I do not like crud or the odd little fly makeing it into a bottle , anyhhooo my thoughts .cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Could it be that your abv is a bit low on that bottle?

Could be but both drinks are poured from same bottle. I put some in the freezer with water last night but forgot about it.oops bit frozen this morning..Just thought it was strange that it only goes cloudy when on ice, dropping abv with water doesn't seem to do it..
Found this seems to explain it https://alcoholanalyzed.wordpress.com/2016/04/29/the-whisky-haze/

Looks cloudy to me as well...

If the glass you left in the freezer is a bit frozen then its below 40%, I leave my whiskey in the freezer all the time and have only had one go to a slushy when it was low abv.
id say that the low abv and some tails are making it cloud up when the drink is chilled, hence why tap water doesn't affect the appearance.

Yea but the diluted one is in the small glass, and is clear. The big glass is straight 40% on ice. I think its chill haze.. My eyesight aint great but no definitely cloudy :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Perfectly normal and a sign of good whiskey! Any bought Whisk(e)y at cask strength that has not been chill filtered will go cloudy on ice. It's the oils reacting to the temperature.

It’s too oily, needs to be dumped.
I’ll collect it and dispose of it responsibly
