Heads, to reuse or not reuse?

Postby Manchestershine » Wed Feb 07, 2018 12:46 pm

I've been collecting heads seperate to tails on my spirit runs, I reuse the tails regularly when I have another spirit run to do and didn't really notice I as getting more tails at the end when doing this. But when I reuse heads I feel like I just get more heads when doing the spirit run, kind of felt like it was wasting time putting heads back in.

What are other peoples experience with heads, do you reuse them or dispose?

I have too many bottles full of them and only so many windows to clean.

I also found my heads were stacking so now I throw my first heads jar in with the fores and get rid of it. It seems to be working for me. All the rest go into the boiler with the next run. I use my fores and heads for window cleaning and to light my fires and webber, saves on jiffy's :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks WD, didn't think about using it as a fire lighter. I was feeling wasteful throwing out hard worked for ethanol but putting it back in the mix just makes more work pulling it back out again. Will however keep the late heads and see how that works for me.

Just remember heads =headache. I cut hard on heads for this reason, you will soon know if you put too many heads in :angry-banghead:

Cant see why not..although maybe ethanol cleans better than heads compounds

There is a lot of recoverable ethanol in those first few jars.
Have not had a hangover yet from double distilled heads.

I never reuse head's, I either pour them on the weeds and ants nests in the yard or use them as fire lighters.

A thing i was reading on "1.5" distilling maintained that by adding back in small amounts of early heads and late tails increases the concentration of the nasty crap and makes the cuts more defined
