5l wash is a waste of time.imo If you have s 5l still make a 25l wash do 5 strip runs then a 4.5ish litre spirit run from low wines..

:text-+1: I used to run a 7.6L boiler with my old 2" bubbler and it was heaps faster to strip multiple runs and combine them for one slow spirit run.

Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

5l boiler is pretty much useless for everything except gin. If your using a 5l to stay legal dont bother because making ethanol is illegal regardless...

This is how I would do it if I was limited to such a small boiler size. Having said that, your profile indicates you have a keg boiler, any reason you can't use that?

Cheers,

More smell emptying boiler than running. If you let it cool first most that smell goes to..and if you add plenty water after dump it then it further reduces smell. Spent Grain tends to stink a bit. So i put dirt over it..
In middle of surburbia by the way..

Tell em your doing all grain beer, and no, they can't have any :handgestures-thumbupleft:

+1 on 4 /5 runs from a 25l, snafu here, If you still want to continue with madness, I would 1/4 to 1/3 a 23l recipe and use a tall thin vessel to ferment in to help with separation when racking

Are you looking at All Grain or sugar heads?

I run rum and whiskey in the middle of suburbia and never had any questions asked. Like Bluc said, more smell coming off backset/dunder than running the still, but let it cool and the smell is all but gone.

If you're worried about smell, dump the boiler contents down the toilet.

But not when its hot cool down first it can melt the fat in the sewer and cause a blockage when it cools.

Well an air still has a capacity of only around 5L, although admittedly the standard size wash is 10L and thus requiring 2 runs, but what I am saying this size is not entirely unheard of.

You could always make one of the many "neutrals" (I recommend Ted's FFV) and use essence to flavour it up. The Still Spirits "Irish Whiskey" is very acceptable to my palate.

Some parts in the shed for something more "traditional", 2" MacBoka atop a 50L SS keg fitted with 2 x 2400W weldless elements (with guards).

If you truly just want to ferment 10l most of the tried and proven are designed for a 30l fermenter just use a third of everything, or even a 6th if you only want 5l :laughing-rolling: :-B they also scale up :handgestures-thumbupleft:
