Bungs for flagons?

Postby shortcut » Mon May 07, 2018 2:23 pm

Hey fellas I got given 20 flagons today. They are mostly 2l but some are maybe 3l and they are all different neck sizes except for a few McWilliams sherry bots. Trouble is I’ve got no lids. I was thinking of turning up a stack of bungs at work on the lathe, we have round stock nylon. It’s very hard though, not flexible at all. Ok?

Did a google search for “bung plugs”... :scared-eek: ...it was not what I was looking for, I must have typed something wrong. :wtf:

Thinking of saving some champagne corks to modify. I wonder how they would go on the lathe? But who drinks bloody champagne?
Hopefully someone here can solve this problem, cheaply.
Cheers bro’s.

Wouldn't use nylon :handgestures-thumbdown: but cork will do the trick. Just make sure its natural cork

Ask your local bar/club/restaurant to save some corks for you :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Depends how big the opening on the flagon is I guess :-B

Not the cheapest option but a fair while ago I went and measured the openings on all my glass vessels and did an order from Widgetco in the states.

Prices and shipping were both reasonable I thought :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I’ve turned down cork bungs in the lathe just using sandpaper :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Worked great

If they're standard 2 liter flagon openings you should be able to get new lids at a hbs.
Maybe not for any that are vintage but that's where I got all mine from.
