Hi all

I picked up a really good condition keg over the weekend to use as a boiler and would not have a clue how to remove the spear, I looked on the web but I only found different ones.

Can someone please shed some light on how to remove this type

That looks the same as the one I did, I took photos of the process and the parts that came out which might help you out, if I can find them again I’ll post them up.
Just make sure you lay the keg on it’s side and relieve the pressure, if it’s upright you’ll get a face full of old beer :handgestures-thumbdown:

Looks like my 'A' type keg
relieve the pressure by pushing the seal down with a screwdriver, away from your face as shit may spray.
get some needle nose pliers or whatever you can to push down the seal and grab the centre metal bit and twist clockwise and the spear will drop.
twist the outer ring counter clockwise, usually with your persuasion hammer and cold chisel

Looks like an "A" type spear. here is the manufacturer part details http://www.dispensegroup.com/en/product ... ubes/flat/
Here is a video of someone opening one but I don't like the fact he unscrews it to depressurise it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1ccWSVcYl4
