Re distilling gin

Hey fellas,
I made up some rough gin recently, first time experimenting with actual botanicals, just steeping them this first time as i didnt have the chance to put the ultra slow t500 on this week. Not super happy with how it came out, too much cinnamon and some other herbs.
How would redistilling it go at removing flavours? (Using reflux still). I want to try make another gin using a diy botanicals basket, and taking some of the SS saddles out.
And in the same go i was thinking about chucking in with it some other left overs i had made up from stillspirits essences that werent really that nice (im looking at you cherry bourbon).
Any advice? :text-thankyoublue:

I cant see any reason why redistilling wouldnt work. Not sure about removing packing to put in a basket. I think you would be better off hanging a bag in boiler above liquid or even maccerating the herbs then redistilling :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Cool cool..
Ive got a cheap SS tea leaf holder thing that can be hung/hooked under the column nut bit quite easily. The removing packing bit was just referring to the t500 botanical basket instructions, which tbf are probably total crap instructions anyways.

I dont know anything about the t500. Can you run it without packing or will it get to hot?

Apparently not, the plastic bits at the top get too hot

I found gin feints to be like rum feints. Very hard to make it neutral again.
However if you're just going to make more gin a tiny bit of residual flavor probably wont hurt your product.

Have you thought about making a batch without the cinnamon and other herbs that came out too strong and then blending that with the original batch?? Or macerate some juniper & citrus in what you have already, then drink like that or re-distill... couple of options there that will work with your still.

You could try carbon filtering to remove flavor
.

Which is so stupid, the instructions for water distilling even say to remove packing and bypass the reflux coil. And the instructions for using the botanicals basket say the same thing. Crazy

You'll find that cinnamon comes out last so when running collect in small jars and then sample before adding to a large keeps jar.
I'd just make another batch leaving out the cinnamon and doubling the juniper that should come close to balancing out the flavour.
Also there's a huge difference between cinnamon and cassia scroll. If the recipe needs cinnamon and you use cassia it'll be too strong. Don't trust the label as most are incorrect.
