I don't get it!

Ok I don't consider my self overly stupid but this has me stumped. I am trying to source stainless tube for a reflux build. Everything i see including copper tube has an OD of three inch not ID. All the ferrules have OD of 3 inch which means they don't slide in. I had this problem with some 2 inch I got from the scrappy and ordered 2 inch ferrules and they just lined up with the pipe not slide inside. Am I missing something surely?

If you’re joining the ferrule to copper, either expand the copper or get a joining sleeve. Sleeve has an ID the same as pipe OD so it slips over. If joining to stainless butt weld it.

There's sizes a 1/4 inch larger that will slide over, leaving around 1.5-2mm gap to solder

Joining collars would work too

Craps, it's stainless - butt weld is industry standard.....
