Afternoon all.

I am going to build my own pot style still, for the most part i can find a good % of what i need local.

What i need advice with is column size, diameter and length? and a reducer from said size down to 3/4" pipe.

And what are the ways of attaching it to the keg.

Sorry mate but there aren't any quick answers around here. Time and patience will be your friend in this hobby. You need to research and work out what it is exactly that you want and need this will mean time spent reading. You will learn so much more reading threads than you will getting a one line answer.

Just wait for the sleepless nights spent mentally building your still thinking about: Condensers', size of still, the height out of the keg, the height of your collection point ( where your cut jars are ), power controller, element size, do I go gas or not, insulation for your boiler. The list goes on into infinitum :laughing-rolling:

Yep that will happen :laughing-rolling: just give it time and it will all make sence. Don't rush in.

Picked up a 50lt keg today for $30

For heating i will be using a gas burner.

Can some one please point me to the info i need to remove this spear pls, dont seem to be having much luck finding the rite info.

make sure you degass it and have its pointing away from you when you remove spear. Looks like the one I did pull middle bit up and turn it 1/4 turn and it should come free, easy peasy :handgestures-thumbupleft: :D

Unless i doing something wrong i can turn it and it will drop in side it but to turn it yo get it out just wont happen.

When it drops inside there 3 tabs that fit into slots that stop it coming all way out...

From memory yes it drops inside but when you screw the cover off you can remove it, the big circular thingo unscrews leaving a fitting that will fit a triclamp.

Picked up a mapp torch at aldi today and a few copper bits from bunnings for the condenser.

Slowly coming tougher, the plan is to have the column 400mm high with a 1 meter condenser, going to ring reece plumbing tomorrow and price the 2" copper and reducer i will need.

I am good with with the understanding of building and the workings of a basic still, i have done a lil bit of home brew beer in the past so have a small understanding of some of what goes on, 1st few runs will be just sugar run to get the feel of using the still wile i do more reading and learning on the doing of the rum run...

sounds good. You going to use a ferrrule or easy flange on the riser? :-B also if you put an elbow and flange on end of condenser and same on riser you can adjust the angle of the condenser :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Wile i am in the learning stage i think i will just set it to 45 angle, from what i have read that seems to b the the go.

Tomorrow i am going to order a tri clamp and 2 2" ferrules if i dont have any luck soldering the ferrule to the copper i will do the easy flange, i have a lil know how with the soldering i use to offside with my uncle he was a plumer.

Easy flanges are pretty straight forward mate. My vote I'd have a crack at the easy flange, you'll get there! If not then order the ferrules but you'll save some $$

Afternoon all, the build it slowly coming along just waiting on mail
Picked up a 3 ring gas burner today for heating, would like some advice on a contact temp meter, something i can use to contact the out side of the keg or column to give me my temps.
Going to pick up a 200lt blue drum for my water rez, but not 100% sure on pump as yet, have some angle iron i going to make a stand for keg and the burner.
With using a gas burner for my heat what can i use as a thermal blanket?
