Clarifying stock feed molasses, is it worth the effort?

Would like to get some food grade molasses to do some runs and compare it to the stock feed stuff.

Any one know of any where on sunshine coast/fraser coast where i could get some food grade maybe?

Any and all advice welcome...

Many of the food wholesale places carry 20l drums, but the price is usually pretty steep, generally it's cheaper at aldi

Try cooloola food services on Monday, maybe try Campbell's down the coast

Feed grade is all i use and it makes a very nice rum... no mucking around with it, just straight into the fermenter.

Hey all, well i have my 3rd rum wash in with 5lts of dunder in a 25lt wash, i dont think i fermented out the 1st run fully it has gone cloudy and getting floaties in it and has a sweet smell to it, is it still worth using or should i just dump it and chalk it up a learning experience.

2nd run turned out a whole lot better let ferment for longer, did the strip run yesterday ended up with a lil over 5lts, stopped taking at 25% nice and clear and the smell is way better then the 1st run...

Good luck with that.
There are plenty of needle valves around, problem is they are usually for hydraulics and rated at very high pressures so the price tage is also high...

Good quality stainless needle valves are generally not cheap that's for sure. I got mine from Process Systems https://www.valvesonline.com.au/stainless-steel-needle-valve. They do offer free shipping and from memory they were pretty quick about it.

Hi mate you shouldn't need a needle valve on a pot. I think your money would be better spent on a power controller to control your take off rate.

Cheers

Hey mate ,can ya clarify were ya intend ta use the needle,as I think some may assume ya sticking it on the end of ya pot still wich would block it and pressure would build up until Bang !.Ifn it is for coolant control then all good.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Thanks for the feed back, i using it for water flow.

The guy at the local hbs had the needle valves for the t500 for $18, i will give that ago and work from there.

I have my 4th rum wash in with 5lts of dunder from each run before hand will prob do one more wash strip then do a spirit run with the 25lts.

Fingers x i will be picking up mu barrel next week...

You don't need a needle valve on a pot mate. There's no reflux to control. If you start trying to do that you may get to a point where the condenser doesn't knock enough vapor down and you'll have alcohol vapor coming out which is bad news. All product condensers should have maximum water flowing through them. A needle valve is for reflux condensers where your adjusting how much vapor is condensed and sent back down the column for re distillation.

Are you still chasing the food grade type?
If you're after some rural grade, I am happy to get a 200l drum filled at maryborough (or more?) and split it between the 3 of us @ 45c/l. ??
