Barrel mods

Postby crikko » Mon Sep 03, 2018 6:02 pm

So i thought i picked up a bargain and got a 200l barrel for $25 off of gumtree. Didnt look closely enough and the lid doesnt come off and I'm pretty sure its had some chemical in there.

I'm only going to use it for water to save on my runs, using a pomd pump.

Should i cut my losses and keep looking for something else? Or is there a way i could open the top to allow me to reseal it so the water doesnt go yuck?

-Chris

*edit.. should have said its got a screw top opening of about 3in, which isnt big enough to put the pump and hose in

I’ll be the first to say it.
The title is a little misleading as your talking about a drum not, what we would call, a barrel
Now, if it’s for water only just clean it, cut a big enough hole with a flap for a hinge to get your pump in and get going :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks stig. Is there any danger if some residue chemicals go through the condenser?

Sorry for the confusion! It was listed as a barrel on gumtree, and i thought the terms were relatively interchangeable. Would i be right in assuming a barrel is the wooden ones used for aging?

I need to study the glossary again. Just found that barrel is listed there.

Apologies, information overload with all this new stuff

No labels on it, but the cap looks like it says hpm

It should be fine for cooling water. To be safe don't drink out of it or use it for fermenting :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Unless you get a leak in your condenser, I’d be trying to find out what it was used for.
