So I have heard it said a few times people using ptfe plumbers thread tape around plates to seal them. I also use it. I have wondered about the coloured variety for while mainly the pink one cause its thicker, heavier duty. I thought I would share a pic.

It used to all be pink :scared-eek: so I would recomend using only the white tape. This is after two runs. The spirit is now sitting in my cleaner bottle..

I reckon the dye would probably end up in your boiler, rather than going through your RC and PC. But, anyway, I've only used the white stuff on mine.

Not knowing whats in it is what worries me could have volitiles in it that carry over being for potable water it may be safe but alcohol is a much more aggressive solvent :-B who knows was just a for your info post. And I will certainly only be using the white tape from now on.

I use the white stuff in my keg to still gasket. When I take the still off after a run its just as white as when its cold. I was going to use the pink stuff as the plumbers at work said it was heavy duty and high temp. Glad I dint now.

The first seals on my bubbler were all pfte seals I made myself, just used gasket paper then wrapped a full roll of tape around them and they sealed nicely. That nice one has to peal them off after the run when cleaning. To reuse just wrap more tape to get a fresh.

now the orange tape is gas tape and not suitable for potable water so don't even think about using them for making seals.

Just my 2 drams worth

Cheers Bryan

Personally, I wouldn't use either. Pink and yellow are for gas and white is for water. I wouldn't expect any of them are food grade, nor would I expect any of them to be alcohol resistant...

Maybe you could try boiling a strip and see if it's just the temperature
Alternately soak some in 95% and see what happens
