Why not make the T500 taller?

Postby Rolls912 » Wed Dec 19, 2018 10:29 pm

Sorry for all the questions. I now have Andrews milk can which will hopefully reduce the burn aftertaste.

I’m now curious - has anyone ever tried extending the length of the T500? I was thinking of making it taller with some light copper mesh packing.... any thoughts?

You sure can, your ABV will go up and you may pick up some speed if you have some wattage spare

Up to a limit (approx 20-30 times diameter) reflux stills always like height, more separation, better cuts, just keep the cooling up to scratch

And old post on here mentions good results from an additional meter

You might find the following article interesting. It explores column height and diameter.
