stilling leftovers

Has anyone put leftover wines ie half bottles from parties unwanted gifts or even alcohol that tasted like crap through their still and what was the outcome. Asking cos I have a few such bottles of mixed variety in my cupboard ,seems a shame to waste.

Distilling wine will give you a brandy of sorts through your pot

I turn wine into neutral often. I've even put shit bourbon like beam through with my bourbon runs before and they have come out ok.

You will struggle with the wine with a pot still unless you want brandy.

I would be hesitant to distill wine that has gone to vinegar.
Think the flavour might carry through.
Does anyone have experience with this?

If the wine has turned to vinegar would look at using as vinegar not cheap good vinegar if its got a bad taste probably not going to distill well when it turns to vinegar loses a lot of the alcohol .

Cheap wines makes your still smell funky so remember you need to clean it afterwards...

Do you use anything special after particularly cheap wines to clean the still btw?

Try your local chemicals store, pretty sure i only paid $5-6/kg for 5kg and that was in a rural area

Don’t know why you guys are buying such bulk amounts of citric, 1 tsp per litre is all that’s needed. If you need to do a really good clean then strip your still down and put the stainless through the dishwasher( or hand clean)and soak the copper in citric solution. Then if you want, do a vinegar run then a sac run

I punched out a feints run today.

Narrow hearts.

Also ended up with a rather nice late heart - early tails. If there was such a thing. About 4 litres.

I can’t use the latter product for gin making as its not neutral enough. The flavour however is quite nice. Not sure if I should cordial it or perhaps try oaking.
