What does this component do?

For a pot still, what is this fluted section and, what does it do? I’ve had a look and can’t find the answer. Cheers

It lets the vapor expand and then compress, causing it to condense a little, giving you a little reflux

Do a search on onion head

Great.

Why not have a couple of these on the base of a pot? :-B

For a T500, would it be better to have this at the base? Or, it won’t really make a difference as the refluxing is far more efficient?

cause they aren't free & a defleg is a more adjustable option for this purpose

On my small rig In pot mode, I've found that a tiny bit of reflux produces a slightly cleaner spirit with less smearing than running at the same speed with power reduction

You would be best served by putting a roll of copper mesh in that section for sulfide removal.

Also it allows you to add plate sections as you can afford them to upgrade your still.
