Stripping run with reflux still "Pure Distilling"

Postby stattonb » Tue Mar 26, 2019 10:02 am

hey guys so finally back into distilling again and i got rid of my old t500 and ended up getting this instead from Pure Distilling, just wondering if i can run this as a pot still for doing stripping runs by tacking the packaging out. looks like a boka to me but wasnt sure

I use to run one of these... still have it for the odd bit of vodka i make. I looked at doing the same thing, but came across a lot of conflicting info about removing the packing so i just made up a simple pot to go on top of the boiler... cheap and easy solution for me anyway.
The added bonus was that i could at any time fire up the reflux and make vodka without having to try and put the packing back in.

i fell like its a step from the t500 i use to have a ''2 pot id put on the boiler and do stripping runs ( got it from a member on here for $50 i think) put there hard to find on gumtree or anything if i had the skills id build one lol tho this pure distilling reflux so so much better and easier to run then the t500

I’ve got one of these and as above I use it if I want to make a small batch of vodka/neutral on a 25L boiler (rarely). It’s much easier to run than a T500 but not really that versatile. I don’t think the cooling supply would be sufficient for fast stripping runs with the packing removed.

one thing i have noticed is there is a little hole looks like a screw hole on the fitting for the valve you open that leaks can only open it a little bit before it starts leaking

Hey mate

I have used the same still, loved it back in the day.
for stripping runs, I built myself a liebig condenser, very easy to make and quick to run. From memory I would do a 23L stripping run in 2 hours on that boiler.

The advantage of this build was I would just change the column on the lid
Eventually I just bought a 2nd lid.

You need to gently bend the copper tube downwards. I had same issue on first cleaning run.
It is on page 3 of this instruction manual
