can a reflux still colum be filled with copper only?

Yes copper mesh i belive has highest hept rating(theoritical plates)...

Sure can.
Tends to be more expensive but it removes sulfides from the vapour.

Thanks boys. I've been spending a lot of time making small spirals of thick wire to fill my colum. I have enough now to fill it also a couple of sore fingers and thumbs. ^:)^One other thing, can i use silicone sealer to make gaskets for my colum to pot lid coupling?

Aquarium silicone "100% silicone" and food grade silicone are all suitable :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I belive it also goes under non acetic cure silicone...

No but bunnings sell it if that helps 100% silicone is one they have....

Or just buy silicone triclamp seals from 5star.
They are only a dollar or so depending on size.
Unless you are trying to seal something other than a triclamp
